At this year's edition of the Biennale Internazionale di Antiquariato in Florence, Francesca Antonacci Damiano Lapiccirella Fine Art will be showing a selection of rare works of art never displayed before, including Luca Giordano's The Glory of St. Andrea Corsini,(Naples 1634 – 1705) which is returning to Palazzo Corsini in its original frame, complete with wax seals bearing the arms of the Principi Corsini. The painting has never been put up for sale on the market before now.
To honour the family saint, Andrea, who had been canonised by Pope Urban VIII in 1629, the Corsini family commissioned Luca Giordano to fresco the dome of their family chapel built by architect Pier Francesco Silvani for Bartolomeo Corsini in the church of Santa Maria del Carmine in Florence.
Seeking prior approval of the design, Giordano produced three paintings on the theme of Andrea Corsini's Ascension into Heaven. The three paintings were later recorded in a collection catalogue drafted by Ulderigo de' Medici in 1880. Two of them still hang in the Corsini picture gallery, listed in situ in the 1940s. When the family split the collection, the third painting, depicting The Glory of St. Andrea Corsini, which had escaped listing, was acquired by Francesca Antonacci and Damiano Lapiccirella.
